Note	BIRTH: Barbour Collection of Wallingford Vital Records, Vol. 48, p. 93: Lucy (Cook) d. Walter & Rowena, b. Nov. 23, 1752," Citing 12:385. "Families of Ancient New Haven," Vol 1, by D L. Jacobus, 1923, p. 440. Ref. is Wallingford Vital Records. Lucy is named as the daughter of Walter Cook in a land record: "Abijah Norton and Lucy Norton of Richmond...." sold land in Richmond to David Chapin of Richmond..."it being the whole of that land bequeathed to said Lucy Norton in the last will and testament of Mr. Walter Cook, late of Richmond, dec'd." 26 April 1785 (21:576, Family History Library 872,086). DEATH: No death date has been found in Ontario County Cemetery Records. Note in her husband's Estate Inventory Files, 1797-1822, FHL 1,765,340: Inventory of "Abijah Norton, late of Easton, N.Y., Nov. 18, 1805," The inventory is of farm and household goods. Total is $474.80. Administratrix is Lucy Norton. John Russell is Administrator. There is a document here signed by Lucy Norton, administratrix dated 12 June 1811, proving her death was after that date. http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/surnames.mcpherson/430.450/mb.ashx. Her great-grandson's genealogy gave the right birthdate, but no place or parents. The family apparently had moved from Massachusetts to Ontario County New York by then.
Note	" History of Goshen, CT," by Rev. A. G. Hibbard, (FHL 974.61/G1 H2h, p. 513-4.) "Abijah Norton b. Feb. 26, 1749; m. Lucy Cook; d. Cazenovia, N.Y." The family had moved to Richmond by about 1773, so the marriage probably took place there. There is no marriage record either in Goshen or in Richmond. (JSP 11-2008)
