BIRTH: West Stockbridge Births to 1850, FHL 974.41/W2 V2n, p. 17: "Ashbel Cone (h. Polly), Jan 8, 1780, P.R.4." He was appointed administrator of his father's probate and was noted to be "yeoman of West Stockbridge," on 20 April 1802. Obviously he was over the age of 21 by then. He was age 71 at his death in 1851, putting his birth 1780. WEST STOCKBRIDGE, MA: In a deposition for Pitman Cook's Revolutionary War Pension Application dated 5 October 1850 Ashbel stated the following: Ashbel Cone of West Stockbridge Deposes. He is "70 years old, born and brought up in this town.” His mother (both parents dead) was sister to Pitman C. Cook, dec’d. He lived a few miles from Richmond where his grandfather Walter lived. (Application #29,731, FHL 970,639) 1810 CENSUS: Stockbridge, Mass. Living there are two males 10-15, one male 26-44 and one male over 45. There is one female, over 45, possibly his mother. (2011-00001 Roll: 17; Page: 193; Image: 165.00. on Ancestry.com) 1820 CENSUS: Arabel Cone is in the index for Stockbridge, but the census is unreadable. ASHBEL'S PROBATE Probate Court for Ashabel Cone, late of West Stockbridge held 20 April 1802. Administration will be by Ashbel Cone, yeoman of West Stockbridge and Erastus Rowley, gentleman of Richmond. (Berkshire County MA Probates, #2160, FHL film 873,486, Vol. 12, p. 53.) On p. 308 the bill for administration to the estate is presented by Ashbel Cone Jr. DEATH: "Ashbel Cone d. April 14, 1851, ae 71," from Berkshire County, MA Cemetery records, FHL 250,319. Localities were mixed, and I'm not certain it was West Stockbridge, but that's where they lived.

Note

Vital Records of West Stockbridge to 1850, Marriages, p. 61, FHL film 974.41/W1 V28v: "Ashbel and Polly Cone, Nov. 6, 1811, intention not recorded.
