WALTER COOK PROBATE Eunice's father's probate, (Berkshire County MA Probates, Inventory Vol. 40, pp. 146-149) shows notes against his estate include A. Cone ($250.00) and C. Goodale ($250.00) 1790 CENSUS: Ashbel Cone is in West Stockbridge, Berkshire, Mass with 7 males 16 and older, two males under 16 and three females. We can account for the females, but only four of the 9 males. There may be more children than we know about. (Roll: M637_4; Image: 0752, Ancestry.com) 1800 CENSUS: "Aspbel Cone" at West Stockbridge, Berkshire Mass with two males under ten, one 10-15, one 16-25 and one male over 45. Three females, one under ten, one 10-15 and one 26-45. (21101-11010 as found on Roll: 13; Page: 248; Image: 203, Ancestry.com.) DEATH: "Ashbel Cone d. April 14, 1802, ae 56," from Cemetery records, FHL 250,319. Localities were mixed, and I'm not certain it was West Stockbridge, but that is where they lived. His probate was dated 20 April 1802 and his widow stated his residence was West Stockbridge, Berkshire, Mass. Also in (Vital Records of Richmond Ma to 1850, FHL 974.41/R1 V28r, Deaths, p. 91.): "Ashbel, h. Eunice, Apr. 14, 1802, age 56 y. G.R.3.)" ASHBEL'S PROBATE Probate Court for Ashabel Cone, late of West Stockbridge held 20 April 1802. Administration will be by Ashbel Cone, yeoman of West Stockbridge and Erastus Rowley, gentleman of Richmond (his son-in-law). (Berkshire County MA Probates, #2160, FHL film 873,486, Vol. 12, p. 53.) On page 75 at the court held at Lenox 1 June 1802 the inventory of Ashbel is taken. His home farm at West Stockbridge "lying partly in Stockbridge and partly in Richmond" is 610 acres with two houses, barns and outhouses thereon. Also there is a tract of land in West Stockbridge which is 70 acres and 24 3/4 acres with a house in Richmond. Total value of real estate is $15,098.30. Dated June 1, 1802. On p. 185 at Lenox, dated 2 November 1802 a trust is established by the Administrators. They are to publish information in the newspapers. On p. 227 Eunice Cone of West Stockbridge, widow of the deceased is allowed to be guardian of Victor (or Nictew, above 14 years. Also she will be guardian of Sally, under 14 years, daughter of Ashbel Cone. On p. 227 Noah Rosseter of Richmond is appointed guardian to Thomas Cone, a minor above 14, son of Ashbel Cone, late of West Stockbridge. Erastus Rowley or Richmond is appointed guardian of Asa Cone and Benjamin Cone, minors under 14, sons of Ashbel Cone. Eunice Cone of West Stockbridge "is the widow of Ashbel Cone, late of West Stockbridge, dec'd, intestate, asks for one-third part of the estate as her dower, 1 December 1802." Her dower is granted. On p. 308 the bill for administration to the estate is presented by Ashbel Cone Jr.
