(Family History Library film 2970.) BERKSHIRE Co, MASS: Walter bought land in Bekshire County (Mostly Richmond, but once at Lenox and once in Stockbridge) from 1789 to 1804. (Berkshire Co., MA Grantee Index, FHL film 872,067.) He bought land from (his brother?) Isaac Cook July 10 1804. Land is in Richmond, War deed, (41:657.) He sold land from 1788 to 1828 in Richmond and Becket (Berkshire Co., MA Grantor Index, FHL film 872,066.) His land was next to his brother Pitman's (28:22.) Walter Cook of Richmond, "yeoman and collector of taxes for said town of Richmond," for the year beginning in March, 1820, is empowered to collect tax from Jeremiah Kingsley, a non-resident proprietor. (Berkshire Deeds 63:434-435, 9 Jan 1822.) Walter Cook of Richmond and Betsey Cook, wife of said Walter, sold for $475.00 to Alonzo Dewey of Becket land in Becket..."containing 60 acres more or less, being the two acres and all the land which was assigned to said Betsey in the distribution of her father James (or Jamez) Burchard's estate, as recorded in the Probate Office at Lenox in Book No. 24, p. 104." Dated 3 April 1827. RICHMOND: Walter Cook and Betsey his wife were admitted to church January 19, 1817, Richmond church Records, 1784-1899, p. 28, (FHL film 510,739, item 2) He had two children baptized there Sept 1818 (p. 44) ISAAC COOK PROBATE Walter's brother's probate, (Berkshire County MA Probates, Inventory Vol. 40, pp. 146-149) shows notes against his estate include W. Cook ($100.00). 1800 CENSUS: Richmond, Berkshire, MA. Two males in the household, one is 10-15 and one 26-45. Four females, three are under ten and one is 26-45. (Walter is 36) 1810 CENSUS: Richmond, Berkshire, MA. There are 3 males under ten, one 16-25 and one over 45. There are 2 females under ten, two 10-15, one 16-25 and one 26-45. 1820 CENSUS: Richmond, Berkshire, MA. There are six males in the house, two are under ten, two are 10-16, one is 18-26 and one is over 45. There are four females. One is 10-16, two are 16-26, and one is over 45. 1830 CENSUS: Richmond, Berkshire, MA. There are four males in the household. One is 10-15, one is 15-20, one is 20-30 and one is 60-70 (Walter is 66.) Five females: One is 10-16 one is 15-20, two are 30-40 and one is 50-60. 1840 CENSUS: Richmond, Berkshire, MA. There are 3 males: one is 10-15, one is 20-30, and one is 80 years old. Four females, 20-30, one is 30-40, one is 40-50, and one is 50-60. DEATH: Vital Records of Richmond, MA, (FHL 974.41/R1 V28r): Richmond Deaths, p. 92: "Walter [dup. m., farmer], lung fever, Jan. 25, 1846, a. 81 y. 4 m. 15 d., in Boston."
