BIRTH: "Leman, son to Jonathan & Sarah Churchil b. 6 Dec. 1780, (Town Records of Litchfield, Litchfield, Connecticut, 1701-1881, 2:133, FHL film 1,516,502.) Also cited in Barbour Collection of Litchfield Vital Records, Vol. 23, p. 56: "Leman, s. Jonathan & Sarah Churchill, b. Dec. 6, 1780," citing Litchfield, Conn. Vital Records, GS#2973 item 4, pp. 49-50; Vol 1, p. 133

HIS NAME: Leman was probably a form of Lemmon, the surname of Robert Lemmon whom his Aunt Irene married. Two of the nephews of Irene and Robert Lemmon were named Lemon. However, Phineas W. Cook, who was a phonetic speller recorded his name Leeman. (The Life and History of Phineas Wolcott Cook, 7. “Mother had two brothers, Josiah and Leeman.”)

HIS GRANDMOTHER'S PROBATE: Sarah Dunk Burgess (Found by Bryson C. Cook at the Litchfield County Courthouse Nov. 2010). Dated January, 1796: "Heirs named, each to receive £8.13.1: James Burgess, Ebenezer Burgess, Mary Troop, Hannah Lovejoy, Irene Lemmon. Sarah was not named because she had already died, but her children were named as Grand heirs, each to receive £1.4.10: Sarah, Josiah, Leman, Lucy, Polly, Irene and Phebe "Churchel." (Litchfield Probate Records on Family History Library film 1022330.)

FRANKLIN, SUSQUEHANNA, PENNSYLVANIA Lemon and Polly settled in Franklin, Susquehannah, Pennsylvania in 1811. He taught school in 1811 the last year the town school was open. (Blackman, History of Susquehanna County, 266, 273.) In 1813 Josiah and Lemon Churchill are found on a tax list in the old township of Lawsville. (Blackman: 273.) 1820 U.S. Census. Leman Churchil, Lawsville, Susquehannah, Pennsylvania. M: 2.0.0.1. F: 1.1.0.0.

DEATH: Headstone The Churchill Family in America, 443 and also Pedigree Resource Disc #134, Pin #625332. He died 25 July 1823 at Franklin Hill, Susquehanna, PA. Buried there in the Franklin Hill Cemetery. (The Churchill Family in America, 443.)
