Cook at the Litchfield County Courthouse Nov. 2010). Dated January, 1796: "Heirs named, each to receive £8.13.1: James Burgess, Ebenezer Burgess, Mary Troop, Hannah Lovejoy, Irene Lemmon. Sarah was not named because she had already died, but her children were named as Grand heirs, each to receive £1.4.10: Sarah, Josiah, Leman, Lucy, Polly, Irene and Phebe "Churchel." (Litchfield Probate Records on Family History Library film 1022330.) LIFE HISTORY Her nephew Phineas Wolcott Cook wrote in his diary that Lucy was never married. She was industrious and self-reliant, worked hard for a living and saved her money. Lucy had a dark complexion which was attributed to an incident when her mother Sarah was ambushed by an Indian on her way to milk the cow. When she saw that the Indian had raised his tomahawk and was threatening to throw it she screamed and ran for the house. She believed she could see the image of this Indian, tomahawk and all, in the dark coloring that comprised her daughter Lucy’s complexion. Phineas saw her many times and believed Lucy was a good woman.
