Note | BIRTH: "Amos, son Ebenezer & Joanna b. Feb. 17, 1728/9," citing Branford Vital Records Vol. 3, p. 68. Barbour Collection of Branford Vital Records, Vol. 3, p. 76. BETHLEHEM: He may have moved to Bethlehem in 1757, five years before his brothers James and Jacob moved their families to Bethlehem. ("Edward Frisbie of Branford and his Descendants," Vol 1, by Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fn, Vol. 1, p. 69.) However, he was received into the Bethlehem Congregational church two years after they were admitted: "Amos Frisby received March 4, 1765." (Bethlehem Congregational Church records, Vol. 1, FHL film 3803.) Two years later the oldest brother in the family Elisha also moved to Bethlehem and was received into the church. He apparently was a deacon in the Congregational Church because when his wife died in 1809 she was recorded "The wife of Deacon Amos Frisbie." (Bethlehem Congregational Church Records, 1738-1850, FHL film 3803, Vol. 2, p. 15.) FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR Since his name does not appear on the muster rolls, he must have served with his brothers Elisha and Jacob in the expedition sent to the relief of Fort William Henry in August 1757. ("Edward Frisbie of Branford and his Descendants," Vol 1, by Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fn, Vol. 1, p. 69.) REVOLUTIONARY WAR In May 1776 he was appointed ensign of the 5th company, 13th regiment. He was appointed lieutenant in 1777 and captain in 1782 (Public Records of Connecticut, 1776-77, 344; Public Records of Connecticut, 1782, 34.) Connecticut Men in the Revolution p. 467 notes him as esign in the 13th CT Militia, Captain Dunning, serving from 12 Aug. to 30 Sept. 1776 at New York. DAR Patriot Index p. 253 shows only his wife Mary, who was Mary Ludington. His second wife, Eleanor Alling, was daughter of Samuel Alling, for whom Rev. War. Service is mentioned in the Patriot Index, p. 11. 1790 CENSUS: Bethlehem, CT with a household of 2 males under sixteen, 2 males over 16 and 3 females. DEATH: Deaths in Bethlehem, History of Ancient Woodbury, Vol. 3, by William Cothren, FHL film 6181, item 3. In the book "The Frisbee-Frisbie Genealogy cited below, it states "His will mentions all the children except James, also a gradson Samuel and granddaughter Sylvia Smith and Rebecca Frisbie." Four of his sons settled in or near Poultney, Vermont. PROBATE: Vol. 10, p. 350, FHL 6,175: Benjamin Frisbie is son to Deacon Amos Frisbie, 16 years old. John Krenber or Prenler of Bethlehem is his guardian. Dated 7 April 1812. Other pages, not copied. BURIAL: "Buried with his second wife in Carmel Hill Cemetery." "The Frisbee-Frisbie Genealogy: Edward Frisbye of Branford, CT, by Edward S. Frisbee, p. 62. (FHL book 929.273 F917) |

Note | Although it states in the book "Edward Frisbie of Branford and his Descendants," Vol 1, (Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fn, Vol. 1, p. 69,) the name, birth and death of Amos Frisbie’s second wife is Eleanor Alling, Bethlehem Church Records give her name Lucy Robert on the marriage record June 1, 1791. (Bethlehem Congregational Church Records, FHL 3803, item 1.) The death record doesn’t help because it states only “the wife of Amos Frisbie) |
