Note | BIRTH: His birth is not recorded in Branford records where James and Joanna were thought to be living, but it is known he is the son of James because they served together in the Revolutionary War in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. Since he was age 19 in the Wyoming Valley Company in 1777, he would have been born about 1758. "Edward Frisbie of Branford and his Descendants," Vol 1, by Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fn, Vol. 1, p. 67. REVOLUTIONARY WAR Revolutionary War Service Records. James Frisby in Capt Robert Durkee’s Company, Receipt Roll for Bounty, Summerset Co. Milstone, Feb 10, 1777. Another card for James Frisby and one for James Jr. in the Connecticut 4th Regiment, Capt. Durkee’s, 1777. (FHL film 1,485,525.) James Frisbie Jr., #35123692 and #39175224. "James Frisbie Jr., Private. Return of officers and men belonging to Captains Ranson and Durkee's companies at Wyoming, who were considered as part of the quota of the State of CT, and have been included in the settlement made with the Line of said State." Commencement of Service, Jan. 1, 1777. Another card for James Frisby Jr.: Capt Robert Durkee's Company, Receipt Roll for Bounty, Summerset Col. Milstone, Feb 10, 1777. (Rev. War Service Records, FHL film 1,485,525.) James Frisbie Jr. Listed on Muster Roll with his uncle Thomas Porter on Sept. 17, 1776 of the First Independent company commanded by Capt. Robert Durkee (Listed in Connecticut in the 4th Regiment) and attached to the Continental Regiment commanded by Col. John Durkee, encamped at Morristown, N.J. (The Annals of Luzerne Co. PA, p. 521 FHL film 962,655.) Early in 1777 two companies were formed among the CT settlers in the Wyoming Valley of PA. They served in the Wyoming Valley company of Capt. Robert Durkee who joined Washington's army in New Jersey, took part in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown and the defense of Fort Mifflin and went into Valley Forge for the winter of 1777-78. Serving in one of these companies were a James Frisbie age 30 (actually James Sr. was over 50) and a James Junior age 19. James Senior was in that unit in 1778. ("The Frisbie Family in the Rev. War," by Nora G. Frisbie, p. 28, 90.) "James Frisbie Junior, Woming Valley Company, Cap. Robert Durkee, 1777; age 19, size 5'10"." (Conn. Men p. 263) A history of Wilkes-Barre lists the names of the men who were serving in the Valley militia in 1777, and included are James Frisbie and James Frisbie Junior, the latter with the notation that he had died 27 July 1777. The Connecticut service book records no service in 1777 for James Senior but notes that James Junior enlisted 1 January 1777 and was discharged (with a question mark) 22 July 1777. ( "Edward Frisbie of Branford and his Descendants," Vol 1, by Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fn, Vol. 1, p. 66.) DEATH: As noted above, James Jr. died 27 July 1777, during his service in the Revolutionary War. A History of Wilkes-Barre as quoted in "Edward Frisbie of Branford and his Descendants," Vol 1, by Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fn, Vol. 1, p. 66.) |
