Note | BIRTH: William was born between 1758 and 1760. (p. 113, Nora Frisbie.) It is known the family lived in Branford, CT at that time. It was stated he changed the spelling of his name from Frisbie to Frisbey. William is fully discussed in "The Family of William Frisbey," pp. 113-119 of the book "Unclassified Frisbie Families," Vol. II, by Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fa V.2. Information was provided by a grandson Cary Roger Frisbey and great-greanddaughter Frances Frisbey Dekker, and published in 1973 in "Genealogy and History of William Frisbey and his Descendants in America." It was proposed that William was either a close relative or was actually Jonathan Frisbie because their families lived next to each other in four states for over 100 years. That close relationship and his assumed birth at the same place and near the same time as Jonathan points to their being brothers. Naming patterns were alike in the two families but unlike any of the other Frisbie families. For example the given names Walker and Carey are common in both families. LUZERNE CO, PA. No record is found for William in either Luzerne or Bradford County, PA where he apparently lived near his brother Jonathan. Neither of them is mentioned in their father's will in Bethlehem, CT. They probably had lost contact by then. Nora Frisbie recorded on p. 114: "William Lived in Luzerne County, PA, in the vicinity of present Wilkes-Barre, and later in Towanda, Pennsylvania, in the portion of Luzerne erected into Bradford County in 1812. He emigrated, probably after the War of 1812, to Morgan County, Ohio, where he and his wife died." REVOLUTIONARY WAR His descendants believe he emigrated from England and fought in the war, probably at the battle of Bunker Hill in 1775, but no record of his service has been found. The likelihood of his having been at Bunker Hill is almost non-existent if he was a part of the Luzerne, PA. family. OHIO Was in Ohio living near the family of Jonathan Frisbie about the War of 1812 (Nora Frisbie, p. 114.) "Emigrated to Morgan Co., Ohio, in the 1810's' to Bloomington, Ill., bef. 1855. One known child: Russell." (Boston Transcript , 1923 as quoted on p. 115, Nora Frisbie.) 1820 CENSUS: Bloom Twp, Morgan Co., Ohio (Roll 92 pp. 087-088) 1 male under 10, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 26-45. 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 26-45, 1 person engaged in manufacture. ILLINOIS Descendants of both William's and Jonathan's families moved together and lived near each other. DEATH: "Frances Dekker in her study has no death dates for William and Ruth but says they were buried in Morgan County, Ohio. The date "before 1817" was furnished in the 1950's to Olin Eli Frisbee, the original genealogist of the Frisbie-Frisbee Family Association, and the source of the information is unknown. (Nora Frisbie pp. 114-115.) |
