Jacob Frisby is listed as property owner in Bethlehem in 1776 (American Revolution Bicentennial: 1776, Woodbury: Woodbury Bicentennial Committee, NEHGS Library F 104 W88w6, no page number). He was on the 1787 and 1791 Bethlehem Tax Lists, Town Records of Bethlehem, p. 19, 97, (FHL film 1522005, item 2,) FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR: From 7 Aug to 24 Aug, 1757 he served in Lieut. Maltbie's company for the relief of Fort William Henry with his brothers Elisha and Amos. REVOLUTIONARY WAR: In the major genealogy of this family ("Edward Frisbie of Branford and his Descendants," Vol 1, by Nora G. Frisbie, FHL book 929.273 F917fn, Vol. 1, on p. 64,) it is questioned if the Jacob Frisbie of Bethlehem who served in the Revolutionary War was Jacob Senior because he would have been 50 years old. However, both his brothers James and Amos served in the war, James even being captured and carried by the British to Montreal. There is no reason to believe Jacob did not serve, but none of the records below, nor the petition for bounty indicate whether it was Jacob Junior or Senior. Jacob Frisbie on a list July 18, 1776 of Bethlehem men who went "for the defense of our rights." (Connecticut Men in the Revolution, p. 611) Jacob Frisby's name appeared on a list of applicants for invalid pension returned by Ct to the House of Reps on 25 Apr 1794. He served a a private in Col. Silliman's Regt, disabled 30 Aug. 1776. "Lived at Litchfield, CT." (Abstracts of Rev. War Pension Files.) Since he was 50 in 1776, this could be his son Jacob, but it is not known. 1790 CENSUS: Bethlehem Ct. His household includes two males over sixteen, one male under sixteen, one female. PROBATE: His will Dated Feb. 14, 1798 gives to his son Jacob 2/3 of his estate, to his daughter Abigail 1/3 of the estate. He mentions them as "my two children." Obviously the others had died by then. Does not mention a wife. Witnesses are James Frisbie, Ephraim Doolittle, Jared Mix. On March 17, 1799 the will was presented by James Frisbie, executor. Inventory included considerable land in Woodbury and Washington twp, yet the estate was declared insolvent on p. 13, Nov. 5, 1798 (Woodbury Probates, Vol. 11, p. 12, FHL film 6175, item 2.) DEATH: Vital Records of Bethlehem, CT, FHL film 1522,005, item 1, p. 18. "Jacob Frisbie Sr. died 16 Sep. 1798, age 72." ("Deaths in the Town of Bethlehem," The Connecticut Nutmegger, Vol 20 #4, March 1988, p. 751 (FHL book 974.6 D25n)

His brother Elijah married Rachel Levi. They named one of their sons Levi.

Note

Bethlehem Congregational Church Records, 1738-1850, FHL film 3803, p. 30. "Jacob Frisbie of Branford mar. Ruth Porter of Bethlem Nov. 18, 1747 by Rev. Joseph Bellamy at Bethlem." Some family histories report a second marriage 23 July 1794 to Mary Kepner, but no evidence whether it was Jacob Senior or Junior. SEALING: FHL film 0934305, Batch 7336503, sheet 19.

Note

Bethlehem Congregational Church Records, Vol. 1., p. 34: "Jacob Frisby married Mary Repner July 23, 1794." (FHL film 3803, item 1, p. 34.) Although this could have been Jacob Jr., in the book "The Frisbee-Frisbie Genealogy: Edward Frisbye of Branford, CT, by Edward S. Frisbee, p. 62, it is claimed that marriage was for Jacob Senior. (FHL book 929.273 F917) Since Ruth had died four months earlier, that is probably correct.
