HIS GRANDFATHER'S PROBATE: Benjamin Hand probate is in Guilford Probates, Vol. 4, 1739-1751, FHL 4354, p. 211. Sept. 4, 1744, p. 212 is the will: "My son John Hand his children Elizabeth Hand, Deborah Hand, Submit Hand and John Hand," received land. HIS FATHER'S PROBATE: Named in his father's probate: Probates of Guilford, 1739-1750, p. 271, Feb. 4, 1745/6: "Land distribution between all children, Elizabeth, John and Submit Hand and Deborah Porter. Land bounds on Abraham Doude, East on Hammanost River, “the dividing line between Killingly and Guilford,” Benjamin Hand and land formerly belonging to the heirs of old aged Joseph Hand which he willed to his grand children, John Hand and Esther Hand.” Dated May 2, 1751. (Guilford Probates, Vol. 4, p. 692, Family History Library film 4354.) (Elizabeth named as daughter of John Hand); and p. 692, May 2, 1751 as sister of John Hand "the only son" of the elder John, (Family History Library film 4354.) Also Vol 4 p. 257: Nathaniel Porter of Woodbury and Deborah his wife (Deborah being widow and relict of John Hand, late of Guilford...allowed for support of the younger children...court appoints Nathaniel Porter of Woodbury guardian to John Hand, minor son of John Hand of Guilford..." Probate Record for John Hand, [Sr.] 1739: "I John Hand of Guilford (Jr) do hereby acknowledge that I have received of my uncle David Bishop (my guardian) my full portion of estate and do fully acquit and discharge my guardian from any further dues or demands what soever as witness my hand this 15th day of May AD 1759, John Hand, [Jr.]" (Connecticut State Library, Hartford, Connecticut, Probate files collection, early to 1880, Salt Lake City, Utah : Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1977-1979, Family History Library US/CAN Film 1015134) David Bishop is the brother of Deborah Bishop and son of John Bishop and Elizabeth Hitchcock. DEATH: Families of Early Guilford, Connecticut, Family History Library 974.67 G1 D2t, p. 597. In his probate in 1860 his brother-in-law James Munger is named. In his father's probate in 1751 he is named as "the only son" of the elder John Hand. HIS PROBATE: Probate of John Hand Jr., Jan. 9, 1760, Vol 8 pp. 102, 120, 197 Guilford Probates (Family History Library film 4355) James Munger Jun. was named administrator in the probate of his brother-in-law John Hand Jr. Because his land was divided between "the two sisters of the deceased, Deborah Porter and Submit Munger," we know John was not married and Elizabeth had died before January, 1759.
