The Barbour Collection of Guilford Vital Records recorded the marriage also: "Deborah Hand of Guilford mar. Nathan Porter of Woodbury June 13, 1745," citing Woodbury Vital Records LR7:3.

Connecticut, Church Record Abstracts, 1630-1920: Nathaniel Porter and Deborah Hand married June 20, 1745 at Bethlehem, Connecticut. PROBATE of John Hand of Guilford (difficult to read)“Nathaniel Porter of Woodbury and Deborah his wife, (the said Deborah being late widow and relict of John Hand, late of Guilford, dec’d, administratrix of the estate of said Hand) exhibited an ---y of debt, deed, h--- of said estate on file, £38.14.2 and charges in ---inghing and repak-g of house. £20-0-0 is allowed for the support of the youngest child £30--for charges of administration above, show for pa--, and to church £12-7 and all which makes £101:1:2 to be a bals- form of inventory and the remainder of the char---estate of £91:17:8. (Vol. 4, p. 257, FHL 4354), Guilford, June 26, 1745

Nathaniel Porter in behalf of his wife Deborah, administratrix of the estate of John Hand, late of Guilford, moved for distribution of the personal estate of £91:17:8 to the widow and children. “Widow is now wife of Nathaniel Porter…” Distribution itemized to the children but only the eldest son John is named. Dated 14 January 1745/6. (Guilford Probates, Vol. 4, pp. 270-271)

In the Talcott Genealogies (Family History Library film 4352) the Hand family of Guilford is listed in detail. The marriage of Deborah to Nathaniel and her daughter Deborah to John Porter were noted.

RESEARCH: There have been many mistakes made about this marriage: 1. "The family came to Woodbury in 1735. History of Ancient Woodbury, Conn. 1659 to 1854, by William Cothren, 1854. Family History Library book 974.6 H2cw, p. 669. Deborah Hand is listed both as the wife of Nathan (June 20, 1745) and John (Jan 14, 1751). However, they were actually mother and daughter with the same name. The records didn't designate which was mother and which was daughter, but we know it was really two separate women. "The History of Ancient Woodbury incorrectly gives her name Hurd, probably because there were many Hurd families in town but no Hand family. (See attached document) 2. John Hand (Benjamin (2), Joseph (1) of East Guilford, Married Deborah ______. After his death she married June 13, 1745, Nathaniel Porter of Bethlehem, Conn., but died in the same year." ("Genealogy of the John Porter Family", online NEHGS, Vol 55, p. 23.) She did not die the same year.
