(Son of Robert Porter) "The only son of Robert who left descendants" ("Some Descendants of Robert Porter with Female Lines, Farmington, Connecticut 1640," Compiled by Margaret Porter Miller, p. 3.) FARMINGTON: "Abigail Porter, wife of Thomas," received church communion, Farmington, 1691. (N.E.H.G.R, Vol. 12, p. 37, FHL book 974 B2ne Vol. 12.) (The History of Waterbury, by Henry Bronson, FHL film 599,254, item 1, p. 175.) OCCUPATION: "Known as Deacon. He was a weaver and a tailor." He "continued the business of his brother John, who died ae. 23." ("Some Descendants of Robert Porter with Female Lines, Farmington, Connecticut 1640," Compiled by Margaret Porter Miller, p.2, 3.) PROBATE: Connecticut Probate Vol 3 "Thomas Porter of Farmington, Jan. 1718." Wife Abigail; sons are Robert, Benjamin, William. Daughter Elizabeth is 16 years old. Also named Timothy, Nathaniel and Deacon Porter. Farmington was settled in 1640 by Hartford citizens. Two of the first settlers were Robert Porter and his son Thomas. Southington Parish in Farmington was settled by Robert's brother Daniel Porter and his son Daniel and William Porter. (Farmington in Connecticut, by Christopher P. Bickford, FHL book 974.62/F1/H2b.) In 1732 it was agreed to separate Farmington from Waterbury, possibly the reason Thomas ended up in Farmington and his brothers in Waterbury. |
