Thye deed is for the dwelling and half of the barn all in Washington, Litchfield Ct. which belonged to our honored father James Burgess late of Wash.. 12 Apr 1791. (Woodbury land records, 3:323, Family History Library film 6149.) HIS MOTHER'S PROBATE: Sarah Dunk Burgess (Found by Bryson C. Cook at the Litchfield County Courthouse Nov. 2010). Dated January, 1796: "We the subscribers being appointed distributors on the estate of Sarah Burgess late of Washington, deceased, have distributed the same. Heirs named, each to receive £8.13.1: James Burgess, Ebenezer Burgess, Mary Troop, Hannah Lovejoy, Irene Lemmon. Also named were grand-heirs 7 children of Jonathan and Sarah (Burgess) Churchill and the 7 children of her brother Daniel Dunk. Phineas Wolcott Cook reported there was an uncle from Canada who came to Michigan to bring a yoke of oxen to him. We know it wasn't his Churchill uncles. Perhaps it was one of the two living Burgess uncles.
