St. Lib. p. 17, Family History Library book 974.6 V2wL v. 48.) His name is almost always record Philip rather than Phillip--on birth, death and military records. His birth 2 February 1752 is recorded in Goshen Vital Records Vol 1, p. 268. (Family History Library film 2970.) REVOLUTIONARY WAR In 1776 Philip's name appeared on a document in Goshen, showing he lived there at that time. It lists Philip as follows: "Cook, Philip, Mass. b. 2-2-1758, Goshen, Ct. d. 1-9-1816, Nassau, N.Y., m. 1775 Thankful Tuttle. Pvt. under Capt. John Bacon', Col. David R. BERKSHIRE CO, MASSACHUSETTS Phillip and Thankful were in Richmond, Berkshire, Massachusetts from at least 1784 (Berkshire Deeds 17:575) to 1816, during which years he sold land 21 times. Each time he was recorded as being "Phillip Cook of Richmond," until 1814 when he is recorded as "Phillip Cook of Nassau, New York." (Berkshire County, Massachusetts, Middle District, Index to Deeds, 1761-1830, Family History Library, grantee film 872067, grantor film 872066.) Comstock Betts conveyed to Philip Cook April 2, 1787 land in the 2nd division, 27 acres. On April 21, 1791 Philip Cook sold David Perry land in the 2nd division, 25 acres. (Land Record Book 30, p. 407) In Book 27, p. 203 we find Philip Cook's land was next to Abner Partridge and Levi Crittenden in 1788. Benj. Merriman sold land to Philip Cook Nov. 9, 1786 and Philip sold to John Barret Feb. 16, 1795. (<i>Richmond, Looking Backward</i>, by Gibbs, Family History Library book 974.43 R41.6, pp. 23-25.) "Minutes of tithes given by ...Philip Cook to Joseph Gould March 9, 1795, of Philip Cook to John Barret Feb. 16, 1795; of Benjamin Merriman to Philip Cook Nov. 7, 1786..."(Richmond, Looking Backward, by Gibbs, Family History Library book 974.43 R41.6, p. 25) 1790 CENSUS Richmond, Berkshire, Mass.
