Note

NAME His name was spelled Samuel McClellan on his marriage record. He was no doubt literate because he was a doctor, and would have spelled his name or written it for them. NASSAU, NY "Dr. Samuel McClellan was born in Colrain, Mass., 14 June 1787 and came to Chathan, NY with his parents. He began his medical practice in Nassau in 1835 and was one of the Founders of the Nassau Academy in the same year...married Laura Cook who was born 4 January 1787 and died in Schodack 30 October 1865. Dr. McClellan died in Schodack 8 April 1855 and both are buried in the Nassau Cemetery. They were the parents of five children most of whom married into local families." (The Early History of Nassau Village, 1609-1830, Family History Library book 974.7 A1 #181, p. 23.)
