BIRTH: He was licensed to practice medicine in 1654, indicating he was probably well into adulthood by then. HARTFORD: William S. Porter listed all original settlers of Farmington and indicated whether they had come from Hartford. Dr. Daniel Porter who died in 1690 was among those listed as an early settler. (P. 166, Memorial History of Hartford County: Farmington at history.rays-place.com/Ct/Farmington.pdf) FARMINGTON: Farmington was settled in 1640 by Hartford citizens. Two of the first settlers were Robert Porter and his son Thomas. Southington parish 9 miles from Farmington was settled by Daniel Porter and his sons Daniel and William Porter. (Farmington in Connecticut, by Christopher P. Bickford, FHL book 974.62/F1/H2b.) Daniel was one of the 84 proprietors of Farmington in 1672. Licensed to practice medicine in 1654, was required to visit the sick in Hartford, Windsor Wethersfield, and occasionally Middletown. He was celebrated as a "bone-setter." "Ecclesiastical Sketches of Southington, Conn," by H.R. Timlow, F.H.L. book 974.62/S1 H2t, p. ccvi. ("Farmington Papers," by Julius Gay, 1929, N.E.G.H.S. Library, F-104/F4/G39/1929, p. 138) On p. 149 of that book Daniel (Probably Daniel Jr.) appears in a list of Colonial War soldiers from Farmington. Daniel was called "the bonesetter of Farmington." "On the Southeast corner of 'the Green' was the House of Daniel Porter, the well-known surgeon of the River Towns." His son Daniel at 29 had no wife, but by 1699 was living with a wife and child in his father's house. In ("The Town and City of Waterbury, Connecticut, from the Aboriginal Period to the Year 1895," Edited by Joseph Anderson, D.D., Vol 1, 1896, p. 163.
