Note	This family listed in FHL film 6010383. Names and dates from ("Some Descendants of Robert Porter, Farmington Connecticut 1640," compiled by Margaret Porter Miller, Gateway Press, 1986. F.H.L. book 929.273, P835m.) Sanford Porter said his grandfather John (Timothy) was born in Hartford and that the ancestor of the Hartford family was Thomas Porter, born in England, who was in Hartford in 1640. Thomas married Nov. 20, 1644 Sarah Hart, daughter of his next neighbor, Stephen Hart. In 1844 the home was still occupied by a descendant, Timothy Porter. Farmington church records show the family in Farmington. HARTFORD: William S. Porter listed all original settlers of Farmington and indicated whether they had come from Hartford. Thomas Porter who died in 1697 was among those listed. (P. 166, Memorial History of Hartford County: Farmington at history.rays-place.com/Ct/Farmington.pdf) FARMINGTON: "Thomas Porter settled in Hartford, and removed early to Farmington. I think he was a deacon. He died in 1697. His wife was Sarah, daughter of Deac. Stephen Hart, married in 1644. His two sons, Thomas and Samuel were both deacons..." ("The Porter Family," W.S.P., New Haven, Jan. 21, 1852, reprinted in NEGHR, Vol. 9, p. 54, F.H.L. book 974 B2ne, Vol 9..) "Thomas was not an original proprietor but was at Farmington in 1640. He was a deacon and a weaver of cloth." ("Some Descendants of Robert Porter, Farmington, Connecticut, 1640, by Margaret Porter Miller, FHL book 929.273 P835m, p. 2.) CHURCH: Thomas Porter and his wife joined the church in Farmington July 19, 1653 (NEGHR Vol 11 p. 323.) He was a Deacon, as were his sons Thomas and Samuel. (NEGHR, Vol 9, Jan 1855, p. 54) DEATH: Inventory was dated Dec. 13, 1697. His will, dated March, 1691 mentions his wife Sarah, sons Thomas and Samuel, and daughter Dorothy Porter.
