Note | Named as son of Dr. Daniel Porter in "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Connecticut," Ed, W.R. Cutter, E.H. Clement, S. Hart, et. al., Vol, 1, p. 584. (FHL book 974.6 D2c, Vol. 1.) There it was said he was born in Farmington but lived in Waterbury. WATERBURY: The Town and City of Waterbury, Connecticut from the Aboriginal Period to the year 1895, Ed. by Joseph Anderson, D.D. 1896, F.H.L. book 974.67/U1 H2a, Vol 1, p. 106. Richard settled in Waterbury where he was Town Collector in 1709 and Selectman in 1713. He moved to West Haven where he died in 1740."Ecclesiastical Sketches of Southington, Conn," by H.R. Timlow, F.H.L. book 974.62/S1 H2t, p. ccvi. He had a small town right in 1684. Later was a highway surveyor in Waterbury, 1703-04; collector 1706, on the school committee 1709; selectyman 1713 and in 1712 was appointed to dig graves. In 1718 he moved from Waterbury. ("Genealogical and Family History of the State of Connecticut," Ed, W.R. Cutter, E.H. Clement, S. Hart, et. al., Vol, 1, p. 584. (FHL book 974.6 D2c, Vol. 1.) Richard Porter is listed as a grave digger (an elective office) from 1711-1713 in Waterbury. He would have been 53 years old. ("Ancient Burying Ground of the town of Waterbury, Connecticut," Complied by Kathryn A. Prichard, 1917, F.H.L.book 974.67/W1 V3p, p. 11.) In 1720 Daniel and Richard Porter, among the 7 signers of the original plantation agreement, were still living. ("Ancient Burying Ground of the town of Waterbury, Connecticut," Complied by Kathryn A. Prichard, 1917, F.H.L.book 974.67/W1 V3p, p. 292.) WEST HAVEN CT. Richard was in New Haven Nov. 1718. He apparently left Waterbury (p. 174) because his estate was settled in New Haven: 154 pounds in New Haven, 199 in Waterbury. In the probate record he was called Dr. Porter, but was never called that in Waterbury. His first wife R--- died in Waterbury Jan 9, 1709/10.
