HISTORY Because of her husband's mental illness, she had a hard life. They lived first in a dirt-roofed cabin with two or three rooms in Border, Wyoming on a homestead with William's brother Joseph W. and his wife Eliza who was Sarah's sister. When it came time to deliver her first two babies, she went to Woodruff so she could be near her mother. After about four years they moved to Garden City, Utah, and later into a frame house across from Uncle Dave Cook's house in Garden City. In 1897, after only three years in the new house, William was admitted to the Mental Hospital. Sarah had to leave that home and move to Woodruff so she could support herself and the children, even claiming she was a widow on the 1900 Census. In Woodruff she worked as a midwife and for the Cook Brothers' Store. In 1912 when the children were older she returned to the Garden City house. William spent some of that time with her, but returned to the hospital where he died in 1933. Her last years were spent in Morgan near her son Newell. In spite of her difficulties, her children reported she never complained. She taught her children to go to church and to love the Lord, and accepted life as it came to her. "Sarah Tryphena Bryson Cook," by Eliza Tryphena Bryson Eastman.

GARDEN CITY: Sarah T. Bryson Cook and child were received into the ward July 17, 1887 (probably for the summer from Border, Wyoming.) (Garden City Ward Record of Members 1889-1894, Manuscript, Original record book Church History Library, LR 3095 7, p. 158.) Six months later Eliza Tryphena was born, and was blessed in the Garden City Ward, so it's possible Sarah stayed for the birth and blessing before returning to the isolated house in Border, Wyoming.
