BAPTISM: Woodruff Ward Records, Family History Library film 27,421, 7 June 1931, Woodruff Ward, Woodruff Stake by LaMarr Stuart. Confirmed by Carter Cornia. ENDOWED: Family History Library film 470,926 MARRIAGE: Marriage Certificate in possession of Velma Dickson Stacey

Major church positions she recorded. 1948-49 - Primary President, Airport Branch, Salt Lake City 1952-53 - M.I.A. President, Val Verda Ward, North Salt Lake 1965-66 - Relief Society President, Parley's Fifth Ward, Parley's Stake (Lived on Elm Street, Salt Lake City) 1977-1980 - Primary President, Edgemont 9th Ward, Edgemont Stake (Lived 125 East 4320 North, Provo) Mother was the most amazing person anyone in Woodruff had seen. She came from a partly inactive L.D.S. family but was driven to be an active member of the church, often riding home with her friend Ruth Stacey on the bus so she could go to church. She took personal responsibility for the household from a very young age because no one else seemed able to do it. She related coming home from weekend band trips and having to clean the whole house because she knew it had to be done before Sunday. Her whole life was spent serving others and making life more pleasant for all around her. When he dad discovered who she was he commented, "This kid is too good to be real." (JSP) She went on three senior missions for the L.D.S. Church: two to the Loaag Philippines Mission and one to Melbourne, Australia. They were very hard for her because she loved staying at home, but she went in obedience. Obituary: Velma Dickson Stacey, 82, died Sunday, March 20, at her home in Provo, Utah from the effects of a stroke suffered a week earlier.

Velma was born in Woodruff, Utah on February 20, 1923, the daughter of Orlando and Charlotte B. Cook Dickson. She married William Charles Stacey, also of Woodruff, on June 1, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple, and they are the parents of seven children. She was active in the LDS Church, and served three missions with her husband, two to the Philippines and one to Melbourne, Australia.

She is the beloved grandmother of 45 and great-grandmother of 27. Survivors include her husband, William Charles Stacey; her children, Janet Porter (Grant) of Orem, Utah; Dennis Stacey (Delta) of Cleveland, Ohio; Darrell Stacey (Loretta) of Orem, Utah; Yvonne Peterson (David) of St. George, Utah; Ann Crowley (Scott) of Provo, Utah; Rulon Stacey (Linda) of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Newell Stacey (Susan) of Warrenton, Virginia.

She is also survived by her brothers Elwin Dickson (Joy) of Brigham City, Utah and Max Dickson (Virginia) of Sandy, Utah; and her sister Maxine Nelson (Robert) of St. George, Utah.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 in the LDS chapel at 4301 North Canyon Road in Provo, Utah. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services on Wednesday and at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State, Orem, Utah, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

In liew of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Perpetual Education fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (Perpetual Education Fund, c/o LDS Foundation, 15 East So. Temple 2 Fl. E., Salt Lake City, Utah, 84150.)
