BIRTH: Barbour Collection of Woodbury Vital Records, p. 197. "John s. John & Elizabeth (LR 5:145) CHRISTENING: "History of Ancient Woodbury," by William Cothren, Vol. 3: Births in Woodbury: "John son of John Minor chr. March 20, 1737, p. 143. (FHL film 6181, item. 2-3.) WYOMING, PENNSYLVANIA His father owned land in "the Susquehanna Purchase" listed in his will. No John Minor appears in early Luzerne County/Wyoming records, but in On 12 Feb. 1783 his name appears on a list of citizens from Westmoreland making a petition to the state of New York for a Tract of Land further up the Susquehanna River within the limits of the State of New York. This petition is being made because of the Indian depredations of 1778. (Taylor, p. 261-263.) In a petition dated Nov. 11, 1783 citizens of Wyoming recounted the terrible price they had paid in both Indian raids and in being dispossessed of their homes and lands by the Pennamite Wars. On that petition is the name of John Minor. (The Susquehannah Company Papers, Vol. VII, Ed. by Robert J. Taylor, pp. 323.) He obviously returned to Woodbury to excape the Pennamite Wars in Pennsylvania. There is a well-known Minor family in Wilkes-Barre after 1800, but the author Charles Miner was born in 1780 in Connecticut and came to the valley in 1799; hence he has nothing to do with John Miner in the record. (History of Luzerne County Pennsylvania; H. C. Bradsby, http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/luzerne/1893hist/ch19.htm) HIS MOTHER'S PROBATE: Elizabeth Minor Last Will and Testament, 16 Sept 1777, #3916, Litchfield Connecticut Probate District, FHL film 1022349 In the name of God, Amen, I Elizabeth Minor of Goshen in the County of Litchfield and State of Connecticut being of sound mind and memory but visited with sickness ... Item: My will is and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my beloved son John Minor my dwelling house and one certain bond that was given me by Hugh Hanah of the Town of Woodbury for the delivery of two cows and calves in May next and also all the money that shall be left including that that my said son has now in his hands that belongs to my estate after my debts are first paid out of it. John also named executor. DEATH: "John Minor died June 10, 1797, age 57." Woodbury Vital Records, Vol. 1, FHL film 1491338, item 1, p. 296. Also see: "John Minor, age 56 died June 10, 1797." ("History of Ancient Woodbury," by William Cothren, Vol. 3: Deaths in Woodbury: "John Minor, age 56, died June 10, 1797," p. 247. (FHL film 6181, item. 2-3.)

ORDINANCES: Endowments were done for this family in 1892-5. They were noted to be from Stratford, and Woodbury, Fairfield, CT. With no vital records available they didn't know. However, there is no baptism recorded for any family member. All ordinances should be finished before sealings are performed.
