Note | BIRTH: Vital Records for Watertown, Litchfield, Connecticut, FHL film 1521444. Although IGI shows another child named Roswell born in 1804, I believe it is a mistake because that is the date of Roswell's marriage to Irene. 1810 CENSUS: A Roswell Eggleston age 26-44 lives in Bethlehem CT on the 1810 Census. He has 1 son under ten, one son 10-15 and the head of household is 26-44. There is one female 16-25 and one over 45. His neighbor two houses away is Samuel Church Jr. and James Eggleston (his father?) is not far away. 1830 CENSUS: Bethlehem, CT. One male 10-15, one 15-20, one 20-30 and Roswell is probably the one 50-60 (he would be 51). An older male is 80-90. One female is 30-40 and one 40-50. 1850 CENSUS: Bethlehem, CT, Dwelling 25, Family 25. Roswell is 71, a farmer, born CT. His wife is Irene, 69, also born CT. One other is in the home: Rixanne Eggleston, age 53, born CT. Two houses down live Horace and Susan Eggleston, 38 and 27, both born CT. Their children are Orin or Olin J., age 6 and Roswell, age 3. BETHLEHEM Land Records Roswell Eggleston of Bethlehem had land records in Bethlehem for many years. He bought and sold land many times. A few are listed: June 9, 1812 (4:175, FHL 3797); Feb. 28, 1833 (7:335/333new numbers, FHL 3799); Jan. 22, 1838 (9:144, 147, FHL film 3800.) DEATH: History of Woodbury, CT, by Cothren (FHL film 6181, Vol 3, Vital Records. "Roswell Eggleston, age 71, died April 23, 1851." |

Note | Bethlehem Congregational Church Records, Vol. 2, p. 2, FHL film 3803, item 2. "Roswell Eggleston married Irene Clark." Also in Vital Records of Bethlehem, CT, FHL film 1522,005, item 1, p. 11. SEALING: Done 18 March 1971 in the Logan Temple. (FHL film 0538207, Batch Number: 7004718, sheet 83.) Roswell and Irene appear on land records together (January 22, 1838 Vol 9, p. 144, FHL film 3800.) However, there is absolutely no record of baptism or endowment. The whole series needs to be done this time. (JSP 4-29-07) |
