He lived in East Hampton, L.I., N.Y. BAPTISM: Baptized 1647 by Rev. Peter Prudden at Milford, CT, "son of John Hand of the Isle of Wight, brought up by Brother Brooks," The Isle of Wight is now Gardiner's Island, northeast of Long Island, New York. A William Brooks was living at Milford in 1647 and a Richard Brooks was an early settler of East Hampton, New York, but whether either of these was the "Brother Brooks" who brought up James Hand is unknown.
