Note | FAMILY: He is noted to be the son of John Hand and Alice Stanborough. (Families of Early Guilford, Connecticut, FHL 974.67 G1 D2t, p. 595.) BAPTISM: Research commissioned by Genevieve Tylee Kiepura in 1950, and published in the 1955 and 1955 articles in The American Genealogist, reprinted in Unpublished typed manuscript by the Rev. LaRoy Sunderland Hand: His memoirs, his progeny and his ancestry, compiled by Edmond Hand Norris, FHL book 929.273 H191n, p. 3 "The Early Hand Family." He was heir to lands in England: In an agreement between John Hand, Jr., late of East Hampton upon Long Island and his "mother Alice Codner" dated 7 December 1663, lands at "Trumbridg and Ashford in Rootam in the County of Kent" are mentioned. These were centainly the lands in Tonbridge and Wrotham, the inheritance of Alice (Gransden) (Hand) Codner. (G-1:207-208). (Research commissioned by Genevieve Tylee Kiepura.) PROBATE OF HIS FATHER: John Hand Senior died before 24 January 1660/61, the date the inventory of his estate was presented at East Hampton. His will mentions but does not name his wife, but names four children: John, Stephen, Joseph and Mary and five younger unnamed children to be provided for by his wife, from what he leaves her. Hodge, p. 3-8 "The Early Hand Family," ) EAST HAMPTON: In his Father's probate dated 24 January 1660/61 John is mentioned. 23 Nov. 1663 John sold his East Hampton lands to Richard Smith of Southapton (G-1:206) 7 Dec. 1663 John Hand Jr., "late(ly) of East Hampton upon Long Island and mother Alice Codner" made agreement about family land in Tonbridge and Wrotham, the inheritance of his mother. 1 July 1668 (G-1:284) "Steven Hand sold unto his brother John Hand one gray horse."
