Note	FAMILY: He is noted to be the son of John Hand and Alice Stanborough. (Families of Early Guilford, Connecticut, FHL 974.67 G1 D2t, p. 595.) It is noted there he married "Rebecca." PROOF of BIRTH: Found in the probate of his father, John Hand who died before 24 January 1660/61, the date the inventory of his estate was presented at East Hampton. His will mentions but does not name his wife, but names four children: John, Stephen, Joseph and Mary and five younger unnamed children to be provided for by his wife, from what he leaves her. (G-1:178) ("A Hand Family," Harriet W. Hodge, p. 3-8 "The Early Hand Family," WILL: Stephen's will, written 17 May 1688 and probated 2 May 1693, mentions his wife (unnamed), sons Stephen (eldest), Joseph (living, but apparently not at East Hampton in 1688), and Samuel (youngest) to have the homestead after wife's decease or remarriage; and five unnamed daughters, all under age 18.
