Note | BIRTH: Barbour Collection of Middletown Vital Records: LR2:22: "John, son Ebenezer and Mary." (FHL book 974.6 V2wl, Vol 26, p. 192) WATERTOWN: James and John paid taxes in1773. Taxes were collected again in 1776, 1779 and 1781, but neither James nor his brother John were listed. It is known James was in Bethlehem by then.("Ancient Burying Grounds of the town of Waterbury, CT," FHL book 974.67/W1 V3pk, p. 279-306.) John was known to have been in Watertown with his brother James. He married Sarah and their children born 1773-1778 are named in Vital Records of Waterbury, Hartford, Ct (Waterbury and Watertown were not separated until about 1780.) (FHL film 1412840, item 1, p. 107) Original vital records for this family are recorded mixed with land records in Town Records of Waterbuy, Vol 1, FHL film 1412,886, item 3) Land Records of Watertown: A highway to Bethlehem laid out on John's land (Vol. 1, p. 427, FHL film 6079) Sarah, "wife of John Egleston of Watertown" bought 13 acres in Westbury 17 Sep. 1783, Vol. 2, p. 29, FHL film 6079) "Sarah, wife of John Egleston of Watertown" sold land in Watertown 15 June 1784, FHL film 6079) John bought land in Western tier of Watertown, bounds west on John's land, 15 Oct. 1788, Vol. 3, p. 541, FHL film 6080.) John bought land in Watertown, bounds on his own land, (Vol. 7, p. 87, FHL film 6082) 1820 CENSUS: Probably the John listed on 1820 Broome Co. There are no Eggleston's on 1810 Broome Co. census. Also listed are John Jr and Seth (his son's). He may have died before the 1830 census as there is only 1 John Eggleston listed on that census. ( Eggleston families of Broome Co.
