Note | BIRTH Calculated 30 December 1853 from her age at death. "3rd child Flora Anne Cook, d. in childhood. (WadhamsGenealogy, By Mrs. Harriet Weeks (Wadhams) Stevenson, p. 274) DEATH April 23, 1858, the death of Flora Cook, daughter of D.B. and Jane Cook: "Reader, our household and ourselves are shrouded in the deepest grief, at the death of the youngest member of our family, a second daughter, Flora Ann Cook, who died of malignant scarlet fever on Friday morning at 15 minutes past 5 o'clock on the ninth day of her illness, aged four years, five months and seven days. She was a lovely flower, too lovely for this earth, but to part with her by the cruel hand of death is filling our cup of sorrow full. We miss her at home. Oh, we do miss her at home!" On the same page, "Local News: On Friday morning, the 23rd of April (1858) of malignant scarlet fever, terminating with congestion of the lungs, on the ninth day of her illness, Flora Ann, second daughter and youngest child of D.B. and Jane M. Cook, aged four years, five months and seven days." Following is a long eulogy on the death of a beloved child, probably written by Darius. (Michigan, Berrien County, The Niles Republican, Sat. April 24, 1858, p 2, Family History Library film 2,404,498) |
