Note | CHRISTENING: Christened 3 Sept 1620 (St. Andrew Parish Records film#0993970, fiche#6907191 FAMILY: The names of his children and all descendents, were found in "Chips from off The Old Block, The Genealogy of a Branch of the Birdsall Family Tree" by Alfred Bradley Brown 1926. Also see the book "New York Hempstead " FHL #974.7245 H1N2 p.24 NEW HAVEN: "Nathan is said to have resided at New Haven. A 'Nathan Burchall' appeared in New Haven records from late 1643 until early 1645 (NHCR 1:109, 120, 139, 152.) This may or may not have been Nathan Birdsall, son of Henry. Contrary to statements in secondary sources, Henry Birdsall did not reside in New Haven." (The Great Migration, FHL 974 W2aa, Vol. 1, p. 302.) LONG ISLAND: Nathan Birdsall granted land at Easthampton 5 July 1653 (Easthampton TR 1:37, cited in The Great Migration, p. 302, FHL 974 W2aa, Vol. 1) Boston Transcript, 26 March 1923 #587, quoting p. 19: Birdsall Family History: "Nathan Birdsall went to Easthampton, L.I., where he bought land, 1653. July 25, 1657, “Goody” Birdsall testified at the witchcraft trial of Mrs. Garlick. In 1664 he sold his land at Easthampton to become one of the nine men to settle at Oyster Bay, L.I., where he died, 1698…Nathan left 7 sons: Benjamin, Samuel, Stephen, Nathaniel, William, Henry, Nathan. Benjamin married Mercy Forman; Samuel married Jane Langdon, and according to Bunker’s Long Island Genealogies, most of the other sons married Marys surnames unknown." A descendant told me that Stephen married Desire Mott. (More on descendants, not copied because nothing certain.) R.G.T. OYSTER BAY "Probably the Nathan Birdsall who later resided at Oyster Bay, where he had a son Henry (Oyster Bay TR 1:684) and a granddaughter Judith." (The Great Migration, 1:302.) |
