Note | BIRTH: No evidence this is the son of John Porter. If Joseph is the son of John, he may have been born in Woodbury where it is known John lived prior to moving his wife and child to Watertown while he went to war. 1820 CENSUS: Reading, Steuben, New York. John Porter's household has one male and one female, both over 45. Next door is Joseph Porter, 3 males less than 10, one male 26-44. One female 10-16 and one female over 45. (Page: 259; NARA Roll: M33_74; Image: 270, Ancestry.com, enumerated August 7, 1820.) 1825 NY STATE CENSUS: Joseph and John Porter are the only Porters in Reading, NY. Joseph had 5 males one of whom is 16-45. There are 4 females, 1 married and 4 unmarried. They live on 8 acres of improved land with 2 cattle, 1 horse, 2 hogs, 30 yards of fabric.
