Note

BIRTH: From Cemetery Records. She was given the age of 80 at her death in 1831. The record states she was born in 1751 and would therefore be 9 years older than Benjamin. HER NAME: Given the name of Rosanna Howe in the biography of her son Benjamin and his wife. "Portrait and Biographical Album of Jackson County, Michigan," Hilda Van Auken, p. 380, as printed in Books/Google.com. Also named Rosanna Howe in Querie, Jan. 1907 in N.E.H.G.R., Vol 61, p. 96 by Mary H. Hosmer, 536 East Main St. Baravia, N.Y. Ancestral File always prints the name "Rosanna Howe or Powers," but the confusion arises because Powers is the surname of her son Benjamin's wife. LAND RECORDS: There are no early Howes in the Grantee Index in Goshen 1738-1800. Elijah and Jeremiah Howe appear 1700-1738. DEATH: Genesee County Soldiers Burial Record for Genesee Co., N.Y., F.H.L. film 1,381,729, item 2, Old Batavia Cemetery. Benjamin Porter's wife named: Mrs. Rosannah Porter who died March 12, 1830, age 80. Recorded in Record of Burials, Batavia Cemetery, 1806-1880, F.H.L. film 872579, item 1. Rosanna Porter born 1751, died 1831. Her death was also recorded in the newspaper: "Rosannah, wife of Benjamin Porter died ae 67 y, pub. 3/26, 1830," (Republican Advocate: Newspaper index 1820-1876, compiled by the Genesee County History Department, Susan L. Conklin, County Historian, July 2000.)

RESEARCH: Philo Howe Sen. a class leader at church, History of Goshen, Hibbard, p. 164 (check date) His son Philo married Rosanna or Roxa Tuttle and they lived in Goshen. However, she died in Goshen and left a will, so it was not she who married Benjamin Porter. JeremiahHowe from Wallingford bought land in Woodbury in 1745 (p. 56) and built the church.

Note

Their first child was born in Goshen in 1781. He enlisted at Bethlehem in 1776 and in Goshen in 1778, so apparently was a resident of Goshen by 1778.
