Note | BIRTH and DEATH: "Descendants of Thomas Porter and Beulah Minor" Pedigree Resource CD 22, which claimed he was born in Rhode Island. His descendant Nancy Smith said he was born in Kent, Litchfield, CT. WAR OF 1812: Served at Buffalo, as per Nancy Smith correspondence with BCC: "Samuel Porter Beeman married in Cayuga County ca 1808 and removed to Clarence Center, Erie Co, NY and remained there until his death. He served in the War of 1812 militia to evacuate the printing press from Buffalo before the British burned the city. He defended Harris Hill so the Americans could publish the news. The army hospital camps were near his house and the viral fever outbreak infected his infant son who was left impaired for the rest of his life. Much of the story accounts are from the family reunions held in the early 1900's and minutes of the lore were recorded. I don't have a copy unfortunately. I imagine it is a blend of fact and embellishment." 1830 CENSUS: Erie, Erie, New York. Samuel Beman 0022001000-0000110001. Two males 10-15 and two 15-20. One male 40-50 (Samuel would be 43).
