Note | BIRTH: ("Porter Family Record: Some Twigs from a Branch," NEGHS CS/71/P839.) Also "Some Descendants of Robert Porter, Farmington Connecticut 1640," p. 9, compiled by Margaret Porter Miller, Gateway Press, 1986. F.H.L. book 929.273, P835m. 1810 CENSUS: Canaan, Columbia, New York. A very strange census. No males or females in the household. However, there are 5 in the category of "other free persons." Neighbors are Ed and Edmond Perry, Eliab and Calvin Perkins, Widow Rando. Other men named David Porter are in Hudson, (his father) Green and Seneca Counties in New York. 1820 CENSUS: Probably the one in Cicero, Onondaga, N.Y.: Two males under 5, and one 26-45. One female under five, one 5-10, one 26-45. (Esther would be 47) (I don't think David Sr. was here.) Could be David Jr. WAR OF 1812: Drummer during the war of 1812. He lived at Salt Creek, Ill and Royalton, Mich. This family is found in "Some Descendants of Robert Porter," by M.P. Miller, p. 10, (F.H.L. book 929.273 P835m.) CICERO, ONONDAGA, NY: Was witness when his parents sold land in Cicero 30 Nov. 1818, (Vol. V:438-440, FHL 860,940) Witnesses were David G. Porter and Lydia Porter, children of David and Esther. DEATH: IGI gives his death date 21 Sept. 1863 at Royalton, Michigan, but there is no such place. RESEARCH: There is a David Porter at Hudson, N.Y. where his father had been working, but I don't believe this David was ever there. When David of Hudson died April 27, 1843 at age 49 (b. 1794), it was "at his residence in Catskill." (Deaths, Marriages and Misc, from Hudson, NY Newspapers, FHL 974.739/H1 V3k, 1:123.) Although he was almost exactly the same age as the son of David and Esther, and the two men appear to have lived parallel lives, I think they are separate people. He may be the same David Porter who was also at Onondaga County with the present David. His wife Desier Haws Porter died at Hudson in 1863, age 81, born CT (City of Hudson Burying Ground, FHL 974.739/H1 V3Ka, p. 143.) |
