Also found in "The History of Waterbury, CT," by Henry Bronson, published by Bronson Brothers, 1858, FHL film 599,254, p. 486. It was noted there he lived in Northbury, part of Waterbury. His Rev. War Pension Application claims he was born in Plymouth, Conn. REVOLUTIONARY WAR: "Joel served 3 years as a private. Enlisted April 27, 1777 for three years, Smith Company. Discharged April 27, 1780. Joel Cook (1746-1836) was placed on Pension Roll of Bradford Co., Penna. for service as a Private, Pennsylvania Continental Troops." Genealogical Collections of the DAR, Minnesota, 1945, FHL 977.6 D2d, p. 24-25. "In 1775 he wished to visit his family so his father, Ebenezer, took his place and soon died of Camp Fever. Joel returned to his command and received an honorable discharge." (Conn. Pensionners Act, 1818, Rev. War Pension Application.) 1790 CENSUS: Watertown, 1-1-6 PENNSYLVANIA: The last four children have no birth dates or places, but his tenth child Joel married in Bradford Co., PA which was divided off Luzerne County. The family may have moved to Pennsylvania then. DEATH: "Families of Ancient New Haven," Vol 1, by D L. Jacobus, 1923, p. 443. No reference, but he is noted to have died in Pottersville, PA. which is also in Bradford County. His Rev. War Pension Application says he died in Orwell, Pa. |
