Obituary: PORTER, LAMAR Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Nov 27, 2009 8/01/1913 ~ 11/22/2009

LaMar was born in Salt Lake City, Utah August 1, 1913 to Warren Wight Porter and Susan Lettie Florence Porter. He passed away on November 22, 2009 at the age of 96, while living at Golden Living Retirement Community in Taylorsville, Utah. LaMar had plenty of challenges in his life but was usually happy. When LaMar was five years old his mother died. She was the mother of nine children; Marcus, Florence, Lottie (passed away at 2), LeRoy, Harvey, LaMar, Francis, Carlos, and Viola. All now are deceased except Harvey who is 98 and living in Henefer, Utah. LaMar spent his early years living in Morgan, Utah. In 1924 LaMar's father married Bertha Cook and two more sons were born - Lyle Kay (Maryland) and Paul (Bountiful).

During World War II LaMar served in the Army with time spent in Texas, and Europe. He retired as a plumber, working for Manwill Plumbing in Salt Lake City. In 1953 he married Anna Heaton Sund, a widow with children Sonia, David and Darlene. Anna passed away three years later due to cancer. He married Dorothy Olsen Mower in 1958 but the marriage ended in 1961. In 1963 he married Mildred Beckstead O'Brien, a widow with children, Betty, Peggy, Bob, Jerry, Sheri (all deceased) and Nancy of Taylorsville. After 33 good years with Mildred, she died in 1996.

LaMar was active in the LDS church with he and Mildred spending later years providing weekly transportation to the temple for other older members of their Ward, and working in other assignments. He had the ability to make friends where ever he went, and in his later years enjoyed such things as feeding birds around his home, or providing candy for children and others at the retirement community where he last lived.
